Final Blogging Assignment :) :/ :(

#1. As we watch progress through the film, "The Hurt Locker", how is the idea of realism being used for this movie? What kind of effects do you think this has on viewers?

I think that realism is being used with how intense it all really is when we are in a war. With walking up to bombs or finding people and needed them to away from the known bomb. Even the intensity when the soldiers don't like each other or just joke around to where they don't want to be messing around anymore and the other one doesn't get it. I mean, I'm sitting in a classroom watching this movie with my class mates, and when I see someone getting shot I flinch. I think that has an effect on some people, it shows what it really is like. Someone who wants to go and be a solider and doesn't know what to except then it will put them on their butt with reality. This movie I think helps with that that you have to except the unexpected.

#2. What do you think your biggest take away is from this class? What would be a suggestion to make the class better for next year?

I have learned that some movies aren't always accurate. They dramatize, only tell parts of the story to almost only one side of the story. I've realized that Hollywood isn't about portraying the truth but just trying to make an income or get some actor/actresses name out there. Something that I would suggest to make the class better is to have more class discussion when it comes to researching the films. That way they will get a better idea what will be in the movie and what they are about to see then just reading reviews since that is just someone opinion on a movie.

  1. Sam, I think you have a really good point when you say how reviews are just someone else's opinion. I think you have a good idea about having more class discussions prior to the movie to better understand what it will be instead of basing what it will be off of what other people have said.

  2. Samantha, I also think this movie was realistic and gives a good example of life as a soldier. I think your suggestion is great and that would actually help make the papers easier if they had a better sense of what was going on before hand. P.S.(Love your emotions in the title)

  3. I completely agree with what you said in the first question. You did a really good job of saying why you thought it was so real and accurate. I also agree with what you said in the second question. It is hard to think that movies would be inaccurate, but we have learned from this class that it happens. I really like your idea for class discussions too! That would be a good tool to use.

  4. Sam, I agree with you that I have also learned that hollywood is only in the business of making money. Although, that is not a hard conclusion to come to in all honesty.

  5. I though your comment about how Hollywood portrays certain scenes in a different way is like the main thing we learned this year. Researching before watching a movie really puts a different way of watching the movie because you can tell what is true or not.

  6. I agree that the movie allows us to be more appreciative towards our soldiers. I believe Hollywood filmmakers only worry about the income of the movie not its accuracy. I disagree that filmmakers try to get an actor/ actress' name out, it is the actor or actress' job to get his or her name out there.

  7. Great Blog! I also found that this was a really accurate film and I thought it did a good job of representing realism. As a viewer, it makes a movie much more enjoyable when a movie represents real information. I like your suggestion about more in class discussion. I feel like this helps us learn better than just reading information.

  8. Spam Ellis Minus Wurgley, I also flinch at certain scenes! I do agree that we learned how movies aren't as accurate as we assume them to be. Now we learn to question movie's accuracy.

  9. I think you did a great job on this blog. I agree with the statement about how people may not always realize what life as a soldier is like. Also you talk about how the soldiers are unstable and even when they are just messing around, things can go south real quick. I agree with your stamens about how film does lie to make it more entertaining for the viewer. I think viewers sometimes ignorantly look this over.

  10. Sam I agree with what you say about the realism of the movie, but I don't think it helps people to realize to expect the unexpected. Not everyone has to be in the war I don't think this would help average citizens in the united states. I do however think that it helps people to understand what they go through.
