I want to say that I think Nichols is trying to say that you have to think more about what your watching then just the pictures themselves. It takes more to make a movie then just the camera rolling and catching pictures to get something for someone to watch. I would want to believe that directors what you to look at all the detail that they are putting into the scenes and sceneries for you to understand fully about what they want you to know about the plot of the story. If you were to catch everything that the director is trying to tell you then you will get a better understanding of what is happening in the film.

1. After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
After I got done reading the article I was surprised that film has evolved as much as it has. We talked about where it was just picture, than it was picture with little flash cards, and now its sound, picture, animated, all sort of things for the entertainment. But one thing that I think isn't as neat as the evolvement of film, is the way that critics go and break down a movie if the don't like what they are seeing.
I want to say movies can be both a social danger and a social benefit. Some people will want to reenact what they see in a film, because it looks so cool, and end up hurting themselves or others. I want to say it is also a social benefit because it can be spending time with your family, friends, and your significant other.

First Post
1. What are your thoughts about taking the class History Through film? What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help is all progress forward as we learn?
•I'm actually pretty excited about taking this class because it isn't like any of the classes that I'm taking or that I have taken. I hope that it will help me get a grasp of what history is like but also I can see how Hollywood exaggerates films. I hope that it will all work out with this class because then, I can recommend it to other students, and that I hope I will enjoy it.
•I think that I'm a strength because I enjoy learning about history, and if I get something and that someone else doesn't I could try and explain to them of what they don't understand.
